How Long Does it Take for a Cory's Shearwater to Learn to Fly?
It Takes Being, Staying, Repeating, Waiting, Belonging to a Place...
The Cory’s Shearwater is extremely faithful to its nesting site and returns annually to the colony from which it emerged, repeating not only the mating location but also the partner, resulting in a single egg. For at least 6 months – equivalent to many years in a human’s life – the Cory’s Shearwater is fed by both parents. It eats and drinks, learns to listen and sing in the birds’ philharmonic, waits for good weather to fly, and avoids the rats hidden in the holes left by volcanoes.
